Music and Voices Under the Stars

Once again, this year’s Competition concluded with an evening filled with music and singing, transporting the audience through past and present beneath the starry sky of Bologna’s iconic Piazza Maggiore.

The evening was hosted by Nicola Campogrande, Chairman of the jury for this edition of the Competition, who highlighted in his opening speech the importance of the interplay between past, present, and future in music. This theme was not only reflected in the compositions of the three winners but also in Mozart’s Jupiter Symphony, which closed the concert.

The concept of time is closely linked to the identity and purpose of the Competition itself:
Remembrance
. Music becomes a timeless medium to give voice and significance to the
victims of the Bologna railway station bombing of 2 August.

The concert opened with third-place winner, young composer Teo Montero Rey, performing his DEUS, DEUS MEUS alongside soprano Claudia Ceraulo. He was followed by the second-place winner Francesco Sottile with his composition SALMO 120, featuring the voice of mezzo-soprano Aoxue Zhu. The evening concluded with Jacopo Proietti’s piece CHE SILENZIO!, which earned first prize.

All three energetic works were enriched by the voices of the Teatro Comunale di Bologna
Choir
, under the masterful direction of Chorus Master Gea Garatti Ansini.

Another key figure of the night was Orchestra Conductor Oksana Lyniv, who uniquely led
the Teatro Comunale di Bologna Orchestra, her radiant smiles and baton seemingly dancing in the air.

We now look forward to the next edition of the Competition, with new composers, new
pieces, and another unforgettable night to come.
See you next year!
