DAVID DEL PUERTO (Madrid, 1964)
Composer and guitarist, he studied composition with Francisco Guerrero and Luis de Pablo in Madrid.
His production includes more than 200 works of all genres, including 5 operas, 6 symphonies, 2 zarzuelas, 1 ballet, cantatas, song cycles, numerous concerts with soloist and an important number of works for guitar.
His work is collected in more than 50 recordings.
In 1993 he won the Gaudeamus Prize in Amsterdam with his first Concerto for oboe and chamber ensemble, and “El Ojo Crítico” Award of the National Broadcasting of Spain.
In 2005 he was awarded the National Music Prize of Spain.
In 2019, del Puerto and guitarist Jeremy Bass have been awarded the Orpheus Classical Prize for the recording of the first volume of del Puerto’s guitar Sonatas.
He has been a regular guest professor in conservatories and universities in Europe, the United States and Latin America for more than 20 years.
He is Professor of Composition at the Centro Superior Katarina Gurska, and Professor of Harmony at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía, in Madrid.
He is currently the Professor of Composition at the Cursos Universitarios Internacionales “Música en Compostela”, held in Santiago de Compostela since 1958.
He was composer and guitarist of the ensemble rejoice! with which he premiered the works Sobre la noche, Carmen replay (ballet commissioned by the Teatro Real of Madrid) and Caro Domenico, commissioned by the Istituto Italiano di Cultura.
Numerous articles and academic papers have been written about his work, including three doctoral theses (Jeremy Bass, University of Kentucky, Lexington; Ángel Luis Castaño, University of Extremadura; Eduardo Soutullo, University of Vigo).
