2026 Edition

Scores for a vocal soloist, mixed choir (SATB), and orchestra.

The 32nd edition of the “2 August” International Composition Competition is dedicated to scores for a vocal soloist (chosen from soprano, mezzo-soprano, contralto, tenor, baritone, or bass), mixed choir (SATB), and orchestra.

The Competition is open to musicians of all nationalities, born after December 31st, 1991.

WARNING

Within seven days from the announcement of the results, the authors of the winning scores shall also be obliged to send the Competition a version for voices and piano (the so-called ‘canto-piano’ or ‘Piano Vocal Score’) so that the choir and possible soloists may begin rehearsals.

Furthermore, within 15 days after the communication of winners, composers of the winning scores are required to send the Competition the orchestral parts necessary for performance.

The XXXII Edition of the “2 Agosto” International Composing Competition is organized by the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, under the patronage and promotion of the Association of the Families of the Victims of the Bologna Station Massacre of August 2nd, 1980, and the Committee for Solidarity with the Victims of Massacres.

The winning scores will be performed live in Bologna, Piazza Maggiore, on August 2nd, 2026, during the commemorative events in memory of the victims of the slaughters.

The concert will be radio live broadcasted on RADIO3, and catch-up TV on RAI5.
