Petra Grassi, one of the most interesting and awarded European choral conductors of her generation, has received several prizes in choral conducting competitions, including the choir prize for best conductor at the World Choral Conducting Competition in 2019 in Hong Kong. 1st prize winner at the “Zvok moji rok”, choral conducting competition in 2016 in Ljubljana. Awarded with the 3rd prize at the international choral conducting competition organized by the European Choral Association in 2016 in Turin and won the 1st prize at the “Le mani in suono” choral conducting competition in 2015 in Arezzo.
With the Vikra Chamber Choir, she won the 59th GRAND PRIX “C. A. Seghizzi” international choral competition in Gorizia with the best conductor award (being the first choir from Italy to win the Grand Prix). After obtaining degrees in piano and music education from the Conservatory of Trieste, she graduated with top honours in Choral Conducting from the Conservatory of Trento, where she is now a tenured professor of choral conducting and composition, having won the national DM180 competition.
With the choirs she has conducted, she has achieved only first prizes in national and international choral competitions, also winning awards as the best conductor (Maribor, Vittorio Veneto, Arezzo, Malcesine, Corovivo, Sozvočenja-Slovenia, Bad Ischl-Austria, Olomouc-Czech Republic). From 2016 to 2020, she was the principal conductor of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Youth Choir.
She received an invitation to be part of the young conductors group of TENSO, the European network of professional choirs, where she had the opportunity to work with various professional European choirs. She is the regular guest conductor of the semi-professional DEKOR Chamber Choir in Ljubljana. She has been co-conductor of the Italian Youth Choir (2020–2022) for three years and guest conductor of the professional Slovenian Philharmonic Choir.
Since 2023, she has been a member of the artistic commission of FENIARCO and the international artistic committee of Leading Voices – Tallinn 2025. As a jury member, she is frequently called to several international choirs and choral conducting competitions (Cork, Spittal an der Drau, Arezzo Polifonico, London, Madrid, Koper, Maribor).
She has been awarded the Gold Emblem by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia, the Prešeren Prize for her international activities (sponsored by the Presidents of the Italian and Slovenian Republics), and she recently received the prestigious Pavle Merkù Award.
