Shen Ye

Shen Ye is a leading Chinese composer whose work has received wide international recognition. He is described as “one of the most fascinating representatives of contemporary music in China, transforming a Chinese cultural sensibility into his own musical language” (Accentus Music).

His works have been performed and presented internationally by performers and orchestras including the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Ensemble Recherche, and Ensemble XX. Jahrhundert Wien.

He is the recipient of numerous awards in China and abroad, including the German Bach Prize Fellowship and First Prize, China National Symphony Award. He is the only Chinese composer signed by the publisher Breitkopf & Härtel. His orchestral works appear in Selected Original Chinese Symphonic Works, 1949–2019, and in A Century Review of Chinese Symphonic Music, 1919–2019.

Since 2004, Shen Ye has taught at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, where he is Professor of Composition and Orchestration. His teaching has been recognized with China’s highest national honor in education, the National Teaching Achievement Award. His research and scholarly literature on his music have been published in major journals in multiple languages.
